It is an historical crime escapade set mainly in 1951 but involving time travel and a bit of subtle romance and plenty of mystery as well as some fantasy. Multi-genre! The plot of the first book in the series was very complex so does this one hold up? I will eat my hat if there are any major grammatical errors.

    Jamila Idris is one of a handful of super-powered teenage soldiers forced to fight for her country in a war between all the nations of the world. All supers gain the same powers: near-invulnerability, super-strength, and their body temperatures rise to potentially lethal levels. Their power will burn them to ashes if they use it too long.
    Her friends, London, a young, superpowered boy, and Dauntless, a fearless jetpack commando, help keep her safe and sane through the trenches and crumbling metropolis filled with deadly enemy soldiers.
    A government official questions her loyalty as she is taken prisoner and finds out that her country might not be the innocent defender it claims to be. She meets Annette, another super-powered teen, and even though they are enemies, they grow close and plan Jamila’s escape together.
    Ultimately, Jamila is put on trial for treason and set to be executed by her own country.
    Throughout the war she moves from youth to warrior and puts the lives of her friends above all else. The emotional toll comes high as the war kills and shatters friends and family alike as Jamila and her friends struggle to put an end to the war by embarking on a desperate mission behind enemy lines.

    Dauntless is a YA novel of 101,000 words. It’s part, “Attack on titan”, and “The violent century”. It is a world war 1esque sci-fi story set in a world of jetpacks and superpowers as told by the memoirs of an unreliable narrator.

The main faction are destitute servants of a vampire on the run from hunters looking to rid the world of one of it’s last monsters. As they haul their masters metal coffin from town to town, they must replenish their stock of human beings that they themselves belong to. Cities give up their deranged, elderly, and the sick to the Coffinguard as they sweep through on their frantic race, but no one wants a vampire to stay long.
    A lone guard becomes separated from the group and meets a mermaid cast out from her tribe. Together they form a team looking to pull the hunt away from his master, and relocate the mermaid to make her own home elsewhere.
    In a city where the dead serve as a reanimated workforce, one small girl tries to get her brother out of jail by becoming a master thief, but the dead man teaching her isn’t a good teacher and the consequences for slipping up are deadly.

The plan, which should satisfy both invites, comes to a halt after he crashes his sister’s car, puncturing the radiator, at the Orange Crush interchange. Hoping to still meet Clare, he decides to drive the car, a few miles at a time, with Knox, a stranger who has recently taken up residency in his bedroom, and Rocky, a high school friend soon to leave for Berkley.
